NUESTROS NIÑOS MIGRANTES cuenta la historia de un grupo de personas que vivió en la frontera de México-Estados Unidos a
finales de la década de los 80 y cómo se involucraron para ayudar a niños, niñas y adolescentes detenidos y repatriados por las
autoridades de EUA después de intentar cruzar a los EUA sin autorización.
La película toma como base el relato de Óscar Escalada un hombre que circunstancialmente, acogió durante algún tiempo a 200
niños en su propia casa en Tijuana. Este documental cuenta cómo él y sus colegas, descubrieron la realidad en la frontera con
nuestra niñez migrante. Después de superar grandes obstáculos, establecieron casas de acogida donde hasta el día de hoy, se
brinda atención de primera mano a este sector de la población; que de otra forma quedaría expuesta a las redes del crimen
organizado en todas sus formas: trata y tráfico de personas, tráfico de drogas, y otras situaciones que tienen lugar con frecuencia
en las calles de las ciudades fronterizas.
En forma paralela, se contara la historia de Martín, el primer niño que Óscar lleva a su hogar, y que sin quererlo se convierte en el
detonante de su trabajo humanitario. En la fecha que se sitúa la historia, se cree que Martín es un conejo o joven de circuito el
cual recibió un impacto de bala por parte de un agente del FBI al internarse en territorio estadounidense sin autorización. A raíz de
este evento, Martín queda parapléjico y es repatriado a Tijuana donde su vida, ahora en una silla de ruedas, gira alrededor de
favores sexuales, mendigar y drogarse; incluso intenta quitarse la vida. Es en este momento que Óscar encuentra a Martín
deambulando por las calles de Tijuana y decide buscar una solución a esta situación por su propia cuenta.
OUR MIGRANT CHILDREN tells the story of a small group of Mexican people living on the US-Mexican border during the late 1980s and their plight to help Mexican children deported back to Mexico after trying to cross illegally into the US. The story is presented within the historical context of US-Mexican border relations and immigration laws, constantly in flux due to market and social changes.
Central to the film is the narrative of Oscar Escalada, a man, who greatly impassioned by the gravity of the situation, was driven to take 200 displaced children into his family home in Tijuana. Through the accounts of border authorities, NGO workers and human rights activists known to Oscar, the film tells how Oscar and his colleagues uncovered the reality of what was happening on the border to Mexican children. By overcoming great obstacles, they finally set up houses that to this day look after Mexican children that would otherwise be subject to human trafficking, drug dealing, organized crime, prostitution, rape and other atrocities that often take place on the streets of border cities.
In a parallel way, it will tell the story of Martin, the first child who Oscar takes home, triggering his humanitarian work. It is believed that Martin was a ‘rabbit’ or circuit boy who showed others the way to cross. He was shot by an FBI agent while trying to go into U.S. territory without permission, leaving him paraplegic. Martin is returned to Tijuana in a wheelchair, where he revolves around sexual favors, begging and drug use; he even tries to commit suicide. It was at that moment when Oscar found Martin wandering through the streets and decided to seek a solution to this situation on his own.
